ABOUT LITHUANIAN MARITIME ACADEMY
Lithuanian Maritime Academy (LMA) is a higher educational institution providing highest quality maritime education and training, combining its own traditions and the latest international standards in developing seafarers, and also highly qualified specialists for many other areas of maritime industry. The curriculum prepares students to take on leadership roles, encourages rigorous self-discipline, and provides graduates with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the global economy.
LMA founded and being run by the Government of the Republic of Lithuania.
- Lithuanian Maritime Academy was established in 1948 as Klaipėda Maritime School;
- in 1996 it was renamed as Klaipėda Higher Maritime School;
- in 1998 - as Klaipėda University Maritime Institute College;
- in 2001 - in the course of the national reform of higher education reorganized into Lithuanian Maritime College.
- in 2008 - renamed as Lithuanian Maritime Academy
QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSEM
In January 2002 LMA Quality Management System was certified by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance according to international ISO 9001:2000 standard requirements.
The Academy became the only institution of higher education in Lithuania to receive such a high international evaluation.
Norwegian Telenor Nett AS and Dutch Board for Marine Radio Communication additionally certified radio communication simulator (GMDSS) of LMA.
